Unfortunately, Oil is not some random ingredient you can grow in your garden since you need to combine different crops and machines to get it.

To make Oil for cooking in Stardew Valley, you will need to process either Sunflower, Sunflower Seeds, or Corn in the Oil Maker.

How to Make Oil for Cooking in Stardew Valley

To make Oil in Stardew Valley, you will first need to get the Oil Maker. This is a special machine that regular Oil and Truffle Oil using various ingredients, the same way the Preserves Jar turns vegetables into Pickles.

The only way you can get the Oil Maker in Stardew Valley is to reach level 8 Farming and then make it from the Crafting menu using Slime x50, Hardwood x20, and a Gold Bar.

You can then place the Oil Maker wherever you want on the farm.

Once it is down, just approach it while holding either a Sunflower, Sunflower Seeds, or Corn and interact with it.

In a maximum of 2 days (depending on what ingredient you use), Oil will wait for you in the machine, ready for pick up.

Here is the exact time it takes for all the ingredients to turn into Oil in the Oil Maker in Stardew Valley:

  • Corn – 1000 minutes (16h 40m / 14h overnight)
  • Sunflower Seeds – 3200 minutes (2 days)
  • Sunflower – 60 minutes (1h)

As you can see, the Sunflower is the best item to use to get Oil for cooking in Stardew Valley since it is processed faster than any of the others.
