As you continue on your quest to catch all 67 fish in Stardew Valley, you will realize that catching a Catfish is going to be very hard.

First of all, the Catfish is hard to find. The locations where you can catch it are normal, but you will need to meet special conditions to actually see this fish.

Second of all, this fish is extremely fast. As you play the fishing minigame, you will realize you are fighting a Catfish if the icon starts moving like crazy up and down.

The locations where you can catch a Catfish in Stardew Valley are the river passing through Pelican Town and the Cindersap Forest, the pond in the Secret Forest, and the Witch’s Swamp, during the Spring and Fall, while it is raining.

Where to Catch Catfish in Stardew Valley

Before we get started, you need to know that you can only catch Catfish while it is rainy.

The only way you can catch one while it isn’t raining is to use Magic Bait, which allows you to catch fish regardless of season, weather, and time of day.

There are actually quite a lot of locations where you can catch the Catfish in Stardew Valley:

  • The River (In the Town and Cindersap Forest)
  • The Pond in the Secret Forest (North-West of Cindersap Forest, right above the Wizard’s Tower)
  • The Witch’s Swamp

The basic location where most players might go looking for the Catfish is the river, as it is easily accessible right from the start of the game.

The only problem is that you can only attempt to catch a Catfish at the river during the Spring and Fall.

At the Secret Forest and the Witch’s Swamp, you can try to get the Catfish during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Although it still needs to rain.

If you use a Rain Totem, you can also catch it in the Winter in these two locations.

Players can find Catfish in bodies of water between 6 AM and 12 AM, meaning you have all day to attempt to catch this fish.

Other Ways to Get a Catfish

There aren’t really any other better ways to get the Catfish, but, since you probably only need it for the River Fish Bundle for the Community Center, here are two other ways to get this fish:

  • Loot it from Garbage Cans
  • Buy it from Traveling Cart

During the Spring and Fall, you have a small chance of getting Catfish from rummaging in Garbage Cans.

If you like looking through trash, then check the bins during those seasons to get a Catfish.

Otherwise, you can also buy a Catfish from the Traveling Cart in Cindersap Forest, but the price is usually absurd, and it is random what stock she has. The price of a Catfish at the Traveling Cart ranges from 600 to 1k g.

That’s everything you need to know about where to catch Catfish in Stardew Valley!
