Since you are probably just starting the game, you would rather choose a younger character since there is no way to know what would happen when you would die.

What Happens When You Die in Crusader Kings 3

There are many reasons your character would die in Crusader Kings 3, as you play as many generations of your dynasty and try to do amazing things.

However, if this is your first playthrough, you should know that there are quite a few things that will happen when you die.

The first thing is that you will see a screen that tells you a few details about your life, your death, and who you will take over as.

Your heir will also appear on this screen, and you will see exactly what titles have remained with you for your next generation.

Usually, if you have more male descendants or only female descendants, your lands will split between them, and you will lose some of your hard-earned territories.

This is why you should take the necessary precautions to make sure your kingdom doesn’t explode when you die into a lot of tiny duchies or kingdoms.

All you have to do now is continue the game as if nothing happened and take care, as most of your vassals and courtiers will now hate or dislike you.

You will also have to make sure that you still have your old alliances and, if not, try not to get them back by speaking to those rulers.

What Happens If You Die Without an Heir in Crusader Kings 3

One problem you could have in CK3 is that you can die before you have a child. If this happens, you will lose the game and get an end-game screen.

This will mostly have a chance of happening if you are playing a created character without any family. To make sure this does not happen, get married as fast as you can and make sure you get an heir.

You cannot play as your husband or wife, so you will need a son, daughter, brother, or sister to take over when you die if you don’t want to end the game early.

Can You Not Die in Crusader Kings 3?

As opposed to Crusader Kings 2, there is no immortality in CK3. You will always die of old age, no matter how much health your character has.

All you can do to prolong your life is to do the body lifestyle in the Learning category and get permanent buffs to health.

This will also allow you to learn when you will have one more year to live, which can give you time to prepare for the inevitable.

That’s everything you need to know about what happens when you die in Crusader Kings 3!
