When a new game is released, there are often new features that you aren’t sure how work or alternative descriptions of features from other games, and that’s also the case in Diablo 4.

One of the things that can be confusing is the sentence “Unlocks new look on salvage”, which you will see on various gear right from the start of the game.

What does unlocks new look on salvage mean in Diablo 4?

With so many systems and features in a game like Diablo 4, you’ll sometimes see something that you aren’t quite sure what means.

The sentence “Unlocks new look on salvage” is one that you’ll find on some pieces of equipment right from the start of the game. While most players know what salvaging items is, they might not know what this extra “reward” is.

If a piece of gear has the text “Unlocks new look on salvage” in the description of it, it means that if you salvage that item, you unlock its looks as a transmorg in the Wardrobe. This means that you can go to the Wardrobe afterward and transmorg another piece of equipment to look like the salvaged piece of equipment. The stats remain the same on the item that you transmogrified.

Inside the Wardrobe, you can see all the looks you’ve unlocked for each type of equipment by selecting them on the right side and looking under “SELECT A VARIANT”.

Diablo 4 Salvaged Transmorg Looks in Wardrobe

Only equipment of the same type can be transmogrified to a look you unlocked through salvaging. For example, you can only transmorg a Chest Armor to a Chest Armor look you unlocked through salvaging.

While you might want to collect as many transmogrification looks as possible, you shouldn’t salvage something you might need just for the look. At the beginning of the game, though, you won’t find anything that won’t be replaced, so you can safely salvage anything then.

There is no limit to how many times you can use a look you unlocked through salvaging to transmogrify other equipment.

That’s what unlocks new look on salvage means in Diablo 4!
