Where and How Can You Obtain Deepslate Blocks

Deepslate and Cobbled Deepslate is a dark variant of normal Stone and Cobblestone in Minecraft. You can think of them as the same block but with a different texture.

You can break deepslate with a non-Silk Touch pickaxe to obtain cobbled deepslate (or obtain deepslate directly if you have Silk Touch enchantment) and smelt cobble deepslate in the furnace to get deepslate. See the similarities?

Deepslate spawn everywhere in the overworld dimension! But only at the Y level equal to or less than 8. Under the 0 Y axis, normal stone blocks will be completely replaced with deepslate.

When you have a pickaxe and want to obtain deepslate immediately, just break the golden rule in Minecraft, and dig straight down! Or you can go around and find any caves or cliffs to slowly make your way down to the lower layers.

To check your current Y coordinate, press F3 to open the debug screen. Then look at the top left statistics and find the value of the word Y. You can see the image below for reference.

Besides spawning deep under the world, deepslate can also spawn in the deep dark biome or in chests that spawn in the ancient city structure.

You can get up to 24 deepslate blocks in one chest.

So you know where and how to obtain deepslate (and cobbled deepslate) in Minecraft. Let’s see other variants of deepslate!

How to Obtain Other Deepslate Blocks?

Cobbled deepslate is the core block for the deepslate family, just like cobblestone.

With cobbled deepslate, you can make other deepslate blocks like:

  • Cobbled Deepslate Slab
  • Cobbled Deepslate Stairs
  • Cobbled Deepslate Wall
  • Polished Deepslate
  • and normal Deepslate

Indeed, you can use cobbled deepslate in any crafting recipes that require cobblestone as their material, like brewing stands, furnaces, and stone tools.

With the help of the Stonecutter crafted from 3 stone blocks and 1 iron ingot, you can turn cobbled deepslate into many other deepslate blocks like:

  • Chiseled Deepslate
  • Deepslate Brick Slab
  • Deepslate Brick Stairs
  • Deepslate Brick Wall
  • Deepslate Bricks
  • Deepslate Tile Slab
  • Deepslate Tile Stairs
  • Deepslate Tile Wall
  • Deepslate Tiles
  • Polished Deepslate Slab
  • Polished Deepslate Stairs
  • and Polished Deepslate Wall

As you can see, the stonecutter allows you to skip steps and make deepslate brick and tile straightaway.

Like normally, you have to turn cobbled deepslate into polished deepslate. Then you can use polished deepslate to craft brick deepslate, and then again, use the brick to craft tile deepslate.
