Where and How to Download Mods for Bannerlord

There are two main hubs where players can find thousands of mods for Bannerlord, and these are:

Most of the big Bannerlord mods can be found on both of them, but sometimes hidden gems can be found only on one or the other.

Both of them will require you to make an account for them to work properly. For Nexus, don’t worry. You don’t need the paid version.

Now you just need to find a mod that you like and that works with the version of Bannerlord that you have installed.

Once you find one, all you need to do to download it is to go to the “Files” tab and download the file that works with your Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord version.

For Moddb, just click the “Download Now” button, and for Nexus, “Manual Download”. You will either get a zip/rar file or an installer that will do everything for you.

The “download and install” process will almost always be the same. However, to make sure, always read what the modders have written on their mod page to see if there are extra steps you need to do.

Some Bannerlord mods will sometimes require you to download and install other mods before they can work.

In Nexus, you will usually get a popup to download the other mods. In Moddb, you will usually have to read a description and get them yourself.

To always make sure you have your mods up to date, make sure to either:

  • Follow the mod on Moddb
  • Track the mod on Nexus

You will have a special page on both of them where you can see which mod has been recently updated.

How to Install Bannerlord Mods

99% of the time, all mods in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord will be installed in the same way:

  1. Extract the mod folder from the downloaded .zip file.
  2. Head over to your “\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules” folder (It should be where you installed the game, for example: “C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Mount & Blade II Bannerlord\Modules”).
  3. Paste the mod folder into the Modules folder.
  4. Start your Bannerlord launcher, head to the “Mods” tab, and enable the recently downloaded mod by clicking the box to the left of its name.

There are going to be moments when you do this perfectly and still get errors. This can be either because:

  • The version of the mod is not compatible with your Bannerlord version.
  • You haven’t installed another mod that is needed for your specific mod to work (Such as the Harmony, ButterLib, or Unblock Dlls mods).
  • There are mods enabled that aren’t compatible with each other. To make sure this doesn’t happen, try not to enable too many mods at the same time.
  • Compatible mods are not in the correct load order.

If you go into the Mods tab in the launcher, you will see that you can drag mods up and down. In the description of some mods, you will see that they say their mod should be high or low in the load order.

If a mod is too low or high in the load order, the game could crash at launch or during gameplay. Always check what the modders say in their descriptions, and don’t use too many mods at the same time!

Also, there are some mods that just don’t work. Don’t be surprised if some of the mods that you download don’t start or crash the game. Read what the other people say as well about the mod in the comments.
