So you’ve just put down your base in Rust and the wooden door that is protecting you just won’t do it anymore.

Doors will need to often be upgraded if you want to make sure that strangers don’t come knocking when you least expect it.

Walls can easily be upgraded using the hammer and just interacting with them. However, doing this to a door yields no results.

There is no way to upgrade a door in Rust without having to remove it first. You will have to craft a new, better door, remove the old door, and then place the new, upgraded one.

Can You Upgrade Your Door in Rust?

No, there is no way to upgrade a door in Rust as you would a wall, foundation, or floor. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t get better doors.

If you look in the crafting menu, you will see that you can craft better doors, as you crafted the wooden or sheet metal door.

Just craft a new, better door, remove and pick up the old door, and place the upgraded door in its place. This is the only way you can upgrade doors in Rust.

What Doors You Can Get

There are three types of doors you can craft in Rust:

  • Wooden Door
  • Sheet Metal Door
  • Armored Door

The worst one you can get is the wooden door, and the best one is the armored one. The wooden door can easily be made with 300 wood, which makes it the best choice when you start the game.

However, you should make sure that you upgrade your door to the sheet metal level before logging out. Anyone can destroy a wooden door in seconds with the right weapon.

Since the sheet metal door is only 150 metal fragments, players should be able to get at least two of these before leaving the server if they don’t want to lose all their resources.

The final upgrade you can get is the armored door, which also has a special hatch to see and shoot through. This one is relatively expensive (20 high quality metal and 5 gears), and you also can’t build it from the start of the game. You will need to research it and get its blueprint.

That’s everything you need to know about how to upgrade your door in Rust!
