Assault Rifle (AK)

The AK is the most popular weapon in Rust, as most players will solely use it in the endgame before the wipe. It is such a popular choice due to its versatility and great abilities at both close and long range.

Due to how versatile it is, most players won’t even need a second weapon, making it one of the first choices for many Rust fans. You can also get AKs easily without having to craft them.

To craft the AK, you will need a Workbench level 3 and HQM x50, Wood x200, Rifle Body x1, and Metal Spring x4. The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

Bolt Action Rifle

The Bolt Action Rifle is the designated sniper rifle in Rust. Everyone will use this weapon in the endgame to snipe their enemies from miles away.

It deals the highest amount of damage per bullet out of all guns, and it is extremely accurate.

To craft the Bolt Action Rifle, you will need a Workbench level 3 and HQM x20, Metal Pipe x3, Rifle Body x1, and Metal Spring x1. The rounds it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

Custom SMG

The Custom SMG is the least expensive SMG in Rust, and it is one of the fastest guns in the game. Due to its rapid-fire abilities, it is one of the best guns to use on the run.

However, it deals very low damage, and it can be very inaccurate at medium to long ranges.

To craft the Custom SMG, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x8, SMG Body x1, and Metal Spring x1. The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Double Barrel Shotgun

The Double Barrel Shotgun is one of the best early game guns, as it can one-shot all players at that point in time and also has 2 shots before having to reload.

Since it is so powerful, it is usually one of the most cost-efficient guns for defending your base.

To craft the Double Barrel Shotgun, you will need a Workbench level 1 and Metal Fragments x175, and Metal Pipe x2.

The ammo it uses is 12 Gauge and Handmade Shells.

Eoka Pistol

The Eoka Pistol is the best weapon when you have nothing. Its shots will usually end up in kills, and it is an amazing choice when you have no better guns.

Players usually use it to get revenge on players that are raiding their base after respawning away from the battle.

To craft the Eoka Pistol, you will need Metal Fragments x30 and Wood x75. You can craft it without the help of a Workbench.

The ammo it uses is 12 Gauge and Handmade Shells.

Flame Thrower

The Flame Thrower exists only as a useful raiding gun for wooden bases.

You should almost never use it for fights, as there are many more weapons that are much more efficient.

To craft the Flame Thrower, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x15, Low Grade Fuel x100, Empty Propane Tank x2, and Metal Pipe x6.

The ammo it uses is Low Grade Fuel.

HMLMG

The HMLMG is the best gun players can craft in Rust, as it is extremely versatile, very powerful, and good for both raids and base defense.

With a 60-round capacity and a base damage of 57 per bullet, this beast can take down most players that come your way. You can even use it with no problems to loot monuments and defeat scientists.

To craft the HMLMG, you will need a Workbench level 3 and HQM x60, Gears x3, Rifle Body x1, and Metal Spring x3.

The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

L96 Rifle

The L96 Rifle is the upgraded version of the Bolt Rifle and is the best sniper rifle in Rust.

The only problem with this gun is that you cannot buy it. You will need to find it in APC and Locked crates.

The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

LR-300 Assault Rifle

The LR-300 Assault Rifle is the upgraded version of the AK, and it is the best assault rifle in Rust.

Unfortunately, players can only get it either by looting Locked crates or by buying it for Scrap x500 at the Bandit Camp. There is no way to craft this gun.

The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

M249

The M249 is the upgraded version of the HMLMG that players can only find in Helicopter and APC crates.

There is no way to craft this light machine gun.

It deals more damage than most guns in Rust, it has really good recoil, and it has an extremely rapid fire rate.

The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

M39 Rifle

The M39 Rifle is the upgraded version of the Semi-Automatic Rifle that you can buy from the Black Market using Scrap x400.

In many ways, it works as a middle ground between the SAR and Bolt Action Rifle, as it works very well at both mid-range and long-range.

You can also get this powerful gun from Supply Drops and Locked Crates. The M39 is one of the best mid-range guns in Rust.

The bullets it uses are 5.56 Rifle Ammo.

M92 Pistol

The M92 Pistol is one of the best pistols you can get in Rust.

You cannot craft this weapon, but you can either buy it from the Black Market for Scrap x250 or loot it from Locked Crates and Supply Drops.

Unfortunately, though this gun is military grade, it is not one of the most useful ones out there.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

MP5A4

The MP5A4 is a military grade SMG that players can craft in the late game.

Though it isn’t one of the best weapons out there, it is extremely powerful compared to the other SMG, and it can be decent at mid-range with the right mods.

The problem with this gun is the wide bullet spread that doesn’t allow it to be used at longer ranges.

You can craft the MP5A4 in Rust at the level 3 Workbench using HQM x15, SMG Body x1, and Metal Spring x2.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Multiple Grenade Launcher

Though this gun is named the “Multiple Grenade Launcher,” many players actually use it as a shotgun.

It has incredible capabilities inside a base, as it can destroy everything using shotgun ammo. However, you should only use it to defend your base, as losing this weapon will be a huge loss.

There is no way to craft the MGL, and you can only loot it from Heavy Scientist.

The Grenade Launcher is one of the hardest guns to acquire but is extremely worth it once you get to use it.

The ammo it uses is 40mm.

Nailgun

The Nailgun is one of the gods of the early game in Rust.

If you don’t use the Eoka, you are most likely using the Nailgun to have intense battles with naked players using sticks.

The Nailgun deals extreme damage at close range, making it an amazing secondary weapon right after a wipe.

You can craft the Nailgun in Rust at the level 1 Workbench using Metal Fragments x75 and Scrap x15.

The ammo it uses is called Nailgun Nails.

Prototype 17

The Prototype 17 is a burst fire pistol. That is all there is to this gun.

You can always change its fire type if you don’t like using burst, and it is generally worse than other guns in Rust.

Try it out for yourself first and then decide if you should recycle it or not.

There is no way to craft this gun, and you can only loot it from Locked Crates and Supply Drops.

Pump Shotgun

If you don’t care about the resources that you have to use to craft guns, the Pump Shotgun is an amazing base defense gun.

It carries 6 rounds that you can use before reloading, and it will one-shot most players that get too close.

However, you can get similar results from Double Barrel Shotgun if you don’t want to use a lot of resources.

To craft the Pump Shotgun, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x15, Metal Pipe x2, and Metal Spring x1.

The ammo it uses is 12 Gauge and Handmade Shells.

Python Revolver

The Python Revolver is a Tier 2 gun that can deal some serious damage if you learn how to use it.

Though it has some major recoil, it has some of the best accuracy in the game, and it is the most powerful pistol in the game.

One of the only problems with it is that it can only hold 6 rounds, which means you will have to reload often if you miss.

To craft the Python Revolver, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x10, Metal Pipe x3, and Metal Spring x1.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Revolver

The Revolver is an incredibly cheap gun in the early game that will quickly lose its value once you get to better weapons.

Though it is a very inaccurate weapon, it can still be useful against other players that are at a similar level technology-wise.

To craft the Revolver, you will need a Workbench level 1 and Metal Fragments x125, Metal Pipe x1, and Cloth x25.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Rocket Launcher

The Rocket Launcher is the death of all bases in Rust. It should be only used to destroy walls and get inside bases.

However, there are some players that would waste hours of work just to kill you with a rocket. We don’t recommend doing that, as it isn’t an efficient use of this amazing weapon.

To craft the Rocket Launcher, you will need a Workbench level 3 and HQM x40, and Metal Pipe x4.

The ammo it uses is Rockets.

Semi-Automatic Pistol

The SAP is one of the more popular guns in Rust as it is easy to craft and will be useful for scavenging runs and just general adventuring around the island.

This isn’t a weapon that you can use at long range, but it is good enough for most random encounters with players and scientists.

To craft the SAP, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x4, Metal Pipe x1, and Semi Automatic Body x1.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Semi-Automatic Rifle

The SAR is the meta at the moment in Rust, as it is incredibly easy to make, and it will allow you to fight most players at absolutely every range.

This, in combination with the Tommy, is the way most players are now fighting in Rust.

Though there are many rifles that might be better, the SAR is just above average in everything, and it is available early in the game.

To craft the SAR, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x4, Metal Fragments x450, Metal Spring x1, and Semi Automatic Body x1.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Snowball Gun

Though the Snowball Gun was supposed to just be a Christmas gag, it is actually a decent weapon that can help you destroy turrets and other items that you wouldn’t want to waste bullets on.

The Snowball Gun is only available in December during the seasonal event, so you won’t see it for a long time.

There is no way to craft the Snowball Gun, and you can only get it when you spawn during December.

It uses Snowballs as ammo.

Spas-12 Shotgun

The Spas-12 Shotgun is probably the second-best shotgun in Rust, as it is semi-automatic and will allow you to get a lot of rounds off before having to reload.

This gun is amazing both when you are defending your base and when you have entered someone’s base and have to fight them inside.

Unfortunately, there is no way to craft this gun, as you will either have to find it in Supply Drops or buy it from the Bandit Camp for 250 Scrap.

The ammo it uses is 12 Gauge and Handmade Shells.

Speargun

The Speargun is a weapon that allows you to shoot living beings while underwater.

Though the game describes this as a good weapon for hunting sharks, it is actually a good weapon for hunting players as well.

Most players will dive into the water when attacked, meaning you won’t have any other way to fight them besides the Speargun.

To craft the Speargun, you will need a Workbench level 1 and Metal Fragments x75, and Empty Propane Tank x2.

The ammo it uses is Speargun Spears.

Thompson

The Tommy is part of the meta in Rust, as it is very good in close range and can become decent at mid to long-range if you attach the right mods on it.

It is probably the best SMG in Rust, and you can make it relatively early in the game.

To craft the Tommy, you will need a Workbench level 2 and HQM x10, Wood x100, Metal Spring x1, and SMG Body x1.

The ammo it uses is Pistol Bullets.

Water Gun & Pistol

Two gag guns that you can craft if you have the Sunburn Pack DLC. They just shoot water.

Waterpipe Shotgun

The Waterpipe Shotgun is one of the most popular early-game guns, as it is very easy to unlock and craft it.

It is usually paired up with a bow or an Eoka, and it can deal pretty good damage if you land your hits.

In general, the Double Barrel Shotgun is much better than this weapon, but it all comes down to preference.

To craft the Waterpipe Shotgun in Rust, you will need a level 1 Workbench, Wood x150, and Metal Fragments x75.

It uses 12 Gauge and Handmade Shells as ammo.

Those are all the guns you can get in Rust!
