How to Enable Cheats and Debug Mode in Crusader Kings 3

To enable cheats and open the command console in CK3, you will first need to enable debug mode.

Debug mode is a developer tool that will allow players to open the command console window for cheats and info about characters and provinces.

There are a couple of ways you can enable the debug mode in CK3, and it will mostly depend on what platform you use to play the game.

How to Enable Cheats Using the Paradox Launcher in CK3

Start up the Paradox Launcher and go to Game Settings under Crusader Kings 3. You will have to scroll down a little bit until you find the “Open game in Debug Mode” option.

Press the Launch button to the right of the debug mode option, and your CK3 game will now open in debug mode, enabling cheats.

How to Enable Cheats on Steam in CK3

Enabling cheats if you have CK3 purchased through Steam can be extremely easy. All you need to do is open your Steam Library and right-click Crusader Kings 3.

Open up Properties and add the “-debug_mode” attribute in the Launch Options at the bottom. Now, just open the game normally through Steam and you will know that you are in debug mode if the checksum in the bottom right corner says “Modified” in red.

How to Enable Cheats on GOG in CK3

To enable cheats for CK3 in GOG, find the game in your library and right-click it. Open up Settings and check the “Add command line arguments” option.

Once that is done, just paste the command “debug_mode” where you have the space and close the settings. Open the game and see if the checksum in the bottom right now says “Modified” in red. If it does, then you have enabled debug mode.

How to Enable Cheats Using a Shortcut in CK3

The last method you could use to enable cheats in CK3 is to just create a shortcut for the game and add the “-debug_mode” attribute to it.

If you don’t have a shortcut for the game, go to your CK3 folder and open the “binaries” subfolder.

Right-click the “ck3.exe” file and create a shortcut. Right-click the newly created shortcut and open Properties.

In the Target space, type in “-debug_mode” at the end, as shown in the image above. Now, open the game using the shortcut, and cheats should be enabled now.

If it didn’t work, make sure that the Target directory looks the same as in the screenshot we have provided above.
