Names mean everything to people in the world of MMORPGs. It’s their identity, their tag, and they’re a brief description of the kind of player they may be.

In Old School RuneScape, a person’s name (also known as an “RSN” for “RuneScape Name”) is the name shown in their chat box and other players.

Of course, players’ opinions change, and they will want to change their name over time. In this article, you will learn how to change your name and other account settings you can modify along the way in Old School RuneScape!

You can change your name in OSRS by going to the Account Management tab in your HUD, clicking on the “Name Changer” button at the bottom, and searching and setting a new name. The second method is to go to the main website, scroll to the Account menu, and click “Account Settings,” where you will see a similar “Name Changer” button for you to use.

How to Change Name in OSRS

Before attempting to change your name, be sure that you are only visiting the official Old School RuneScape website to avoid hackers.

While you are able to change your name in the main game, doing so on the main website allows you to preserve your old name so it is not taken by anyone else.

That being said, there are two ways to change your name in Old School RuneScape:

In The Account Management Menu In The Game

When you click on the Account Management tab on your HUD, you will find the menu for Account Settings, your inbox, and helpful links, as well as the Name Changer at the bottom.

When you click on the Name Changer, it will ask you to put in your Bank PIN (if you haven’t already done so this session) and bring you to a menu where you can search for available names.

Once you find an available name, you will be given the option to change your current name to your new one, with the warning that you can only do it once every 28 days for free.

Otherwise, regardless of how recent your last name change was, you can redeem an Old School RuneScape bond to change your name instantly.

From the Official Jagex Website

On the main website for Old School RuneScape, there are different menus available on the left-hand side of the homepage. Go to Account>Account Settings, and log into the site when it asks you to do so.

Scrolling down the page, you can click “Change Character Name,” where you can search and set a new RSN.

As lined out earlier, changing your name through this method allows you to preserve your old name, so other accounts won’t be able to take it.

Notable Account Settings

Other than changing your name, you can do other notable things to help fine-tune your account for management purposes.

Authenticator

Both the in-game and account settings menus on the website will give you the option to set an authenticator to your account.

A multi-factor authenticator doubles down on your account’s security, giving you an extra layer of protection.

Setting up an authenticator for your account is highly advised if you haven’t done so already.

Account Status

This menu is used to check for any active mutes, bans, or restrictions for an account. Here you may also submit appeals to any rule violations against your account to possibly get them overruled.

Active Sessions

If you have recently closed your client without logging out, have disconnected due to network errors, or have received a message that your account is still logged in while trying to enter the game, you can access this tab to automatically close any lingering sessions.

That is how you can change your name in Old School RuneScape!
