  • x5 Crystal Floor – x1 Refined Quartz

  • Farm Computer – x10 Refined Quartz
  • Garden Pot – x1 Refined Quartz

You will also need 10 Refined Quartz to build the Slime Hatch, where you can grow your own Slime farm.

How to Get Refined Quartz in Stardew Valley

There are 4 ways to get a lot of Refined Quartz fast in Stardew Valley:

  • Smelt Quartz
  • Recycle CDs and Glasses
  • Loot Ghosts in Mines and Skull Cavern
  • Raise a Ghostfish Fish Pond

Smelt Quartz using a Furnace

The most common method that most players use to get Refined Quartz in Stardew Valley is to smelt Quartz in the Furnace.

To do this, you will need to have one Coal in your inventory and insert the Quartz in a free Furnace. It will take one hour and a half for the Furnace to smelt the mineral into Refined Quartz.

If you use a Fire Quartz, you will get 3 Refined Quartz. You can mainly find Quartz in the Mines and the Skull Cavern as a forageable item. This means you will have to pick it up.

Since you also need Coal for this method, many players prefer to avoid smelting Quartz.

You can usually use the Furnaces to smelt much more important ores, and you would also lose out on precious Coal for nothing.

You also have to go looking for Quartz in the Mines, though this can be avoided if you have a Crystalarium.

The Crystalarium is an overpowered item that players will unlock at level 9 Mining. This machine can make copies of gems and minerals.

Normally, the time it would take to replicate an item is very long, but for Quartz it is relatively short.

Though this method doesn’t explicitly bring you Refined Quartz, it will give you a constant source of either Quartz or Fire Quartz which you can use to smelt in the Furnace.

It takes 7 hours for the Crystalarium to make a copy of Quartz, giving you a simple way to get Quartz without visiting the Mines.

Recycle Broken CDs and Glasses

If you like to fish a lot in Stardew Valley, then you will unlock a special structure at level 4 Fishing which will allow you to get Refined Quartz for almost nothing.

At level 4 Fishing, players will unlock the Recycling Machine. After you build it with 25 Wood, 25 Stone, and 1 Iron Bar, you can now place trash items you get from fishing inside of it and get a useful item in exchange after 1 hour.

The Broken CD and Broken Glasses will give you 1 Refined Quartz if you get rid of them using the Recycling Machine in Stardew Valley.

If you spend a lot of time fishing, then this method will allow you to get a lot of Refined Quartz on the side, as you won’t be so upset picking up trash from the rivers anymore.

Defeat Ghosts in the Mines and the Skull Cavern

There are two types of enemies that you can defeat for a chance to get Refined Quartz in Stardew Valley:

  • Ghosts
  • Carbon Ghosts

You can find Ghosts between levels 51 and 79 of the Mines that have an 8% chance of dropping Refined Quartz.

Since Ghosts start attacking you the moment you reach their floor, your best strategy would be to go through those floors and just wait for them to come to you.

Since you just have to stand still and swing your sword when they get close, you can easily farm them.

If you want a higher chance of getting Refined Quartz, you can head into the Skull Cavern and hunt Carbon Ghosts, the evolved version of normal Ghosts, which have a 10% drop rate.

As long as you have the right weapon, you should easily get some Refined Quartz if you aren’t afraid of fighting annoying enemies.

The best strategy to beat Ghosts is to just wait for them and time your sword swing right to hit them when they get close enough.

They will recoil backward, and you will have to wait a second for them to approach you again to get more hits in. They usually don’t have a huge health pool, and you can avoid even getting hit by them once.

Ghostfish Fish Pond

The last method you could use to get both Refined Quartz and normal Quartz is to raise a Ghostfish Fish Pond.

The Ghostfish is a special type of fish that you can catch during any season as long as you look for it inside the Mines, on either floor 20 or 60.

Just use the elevator to get to level 20 and fish there for a while to get a few Ghostfish. You will need 1 for the start of the Fish Pond, then 3, 5, and 7.

Most of the quests to increase the size of the pond will require you to give them items you can find inside the Mines, such as Quartz, Cave Carrots, and Dwarf Scrolls.

If you fill up a Fish Pond with the Ghostfish you will have a daily 4% chance to get 1 Refined Quartz from them. You also have an 11% chance to get 3 Quartz.

Though we wouldn’t normally recommend you grow a Ghostfish Fish Pond, if all you want is Quartz and Refined Quartz, then this would be a really good choice.
