Can You Manually Save the Game in Stardew Valley?

There is no real way to manually save the game in Stardew Valley. You can’t just get up and leave the computer or console when you feel like you are done with the game.

In Stardew Valley, the game automatically saves each time you wake up in the morning. So, if you go to sleep in your bed or you faint at 2 AM, the game will automatically save your progress and allow you to come back to that morning when you load the game back up.

Unfortunately, there is only one save file for your character, and you can’t go back in time. If you want to save scum in Stardew Valley, the best you can do is restart the day.

Another thing that some players might not like is that you would lose all your progress in a day if you leave the game without sleeping first.

However, a day is only around 15 minutes from 6 AM to 2 AM, which means that, even if the game crashes or you have to urgently close your device, you won’t lose a lot of in-game time.

This is why many fans consider sleeping in the bed “manual saving” in Stardew Valley.

Since there aren’t any timed events and your gameplay speed doesn’t affect anything in the long run, you can go to sleep at 7 AM in the morning and still continue with no real repercussions.

How to Manually Save the Game on the Mobile Version

Mobile Stardew Valley fans should be happy to learn that they can manually save the game. Here is how to save on the mobile version of Stardew Valley:

  1. Open the in-game menu and select the controller icon.
  2. Select the “Save Backup” button.
  3. If you restart the game and come back, you will get this question: “Would you like to restore from where you previously left off?” If you say “Yes,” then you will load the backup save file you created earlier.

You can only have one backup save file, so make sure to use it only when you need it.

How to Manually Save the Game on the Switch Version

There is no real way to save the game on the Switch version of Stardew Valley, but there is a little trick that you can use to stop the game at any time and come back to where you were.

Switch players can stop their game by opening the inventory or menu, and then they can put the console on Sleep mode.

This will allow you to come back at any time exactly where you were. However, there is a slight chance that the game will crash when you come back.

How to Manually Save the Game Using Mods

PC players also have a chance to manually save the game in Stardew Valley using mods.

The Save Anywhere Redux mod will allow you to save the game at any time by pressing the “K” button on the keyboard.

This is very convenient and will allow you to save scum to your heart’s content.

Players can also use this mod to leave the game at any time and not lose all of that mining or fishing progress that they got during the day.

Where to Find the Save Files for Stardew Valley on PC

If you have problems with your save files or you want to change some things, knowing their exact location can be very helpful.

For the Steam/GOG version of the game, you can find the save files in this directory: “%appdata%\StardewValley\Saves.”

If you got the game using the Xbox App, you will find the save files in “%localappdata%\Packages\ConcernedApe.StardewValleyPC_0c8vynj4cqe4e\LocalCache\Roaming\StardewValley\Saves.”
