Murmuring Obols is a currency you obtain from completing events around the world of Sanctuary. You can see how many Murmuring Obols you have in the bottom-right of your inventory.
You can spend Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4 at the Purveyor of Curiosities NPCs located in the major towns of the game, including Kyovashad. These NPCs sell both random weapon and gear chances as well as Whispering Keys.

What are Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4?
Murmuring Obols is a currency rewarded to players in Diablo 4 upon completing public events around the world of Sanctuary.
You can see the number of Murmuring Obols you currently have in the bottom-right of your inventory.
To increase the number of Murmuring Obols, you can hold at a time. You can gather renown to unlock the 4th milestone in each region, which gives +80 Max Obols. You need to be on world tier 3 to unlock these upgrades.
Murmuring Obols can be used to purchase Whispering Keys and gear at specific NPCs in major towns.
How to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4
You get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4 by completing public events in Sanctuary.
If you manage to complete the mastery of an event, you get the Greater Radiant Chest instead of the regular Radiant Chest; you receive more Murmuring Obols than normally.
Murmuring Obols can also be obtained by completing some dungeons. However, if you want to farm a lot of them quickly, running around on your mount and completing public events is by far the fastest way to get them.
Where can you spend Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4?
Murmuring Obols can be spent at the Purveyor of Curiosities NPCs, which are located in the major towns of Diablo 4.
You can find one of these NPCs in a major town by looking for the money bag icon with a question mark on it.
At the Purveyor of Curiosities, you can purchase both Whispering Keys for Silent Chests, as well as random gear chances for each type of armor and weapon.
When you buy a random gear chance, you receive a piece of equipment or a weapon of the type you chose in a random rarity, level (near your current level), and with random affixes.
As the gear you receive will be around your current level, it doesn’t make much sense to purchase gear chances early on in the game, as you will be replacing the gear soon, so you might as well save your obols or purchase Whispering Keys instead.
