How to Plant Flowers in Don’t Starve Together

Flowers are renewable resources in Don’t Starve Together. Besides decoration purposes, players can pick them up to quickly regain 5 sanity points or use them to craft the Garland (minor sanity aura) and the Pretty Parasol (reduce sanity lost from the rain).

To make the most out of flowers, let’s see the steps to plant flowers in Don’t Starve Together!

1. Make a Bug Net

First, you need to make a Bug Net to catch butterflies. Each Bug Net requires 4 Twigs, 2 Silks, and 1 Rope to craft and can be used to catch up to 10 butterflies.

Twigs are common material in Don’t Starve Together, so getting 4 is not a big problem. For a Rope, you’ll need 3 Grass, another common material.

Silk can be found by killing spiders and destroying spider dens. If you’re afraid of combat, try to pick some tumbleweeds in the desert biome, although each only has a 1% chance to give a Silk.

2. Catch Butterflies

When you have a Bug Net, right-click on it to equip it to your main hand.

Once equipped, left-click on a butterfly or press the Spacebar key to catch it. The latter method is recommended since aiming the butterfly with your mouse won’t be easy.

Remember that the butterfly will try to run away from your character, so it’s best to predict its movements and try to go from the opposite direction. Alternatively, you can just wait for the butterfly to lay in the flower and catch it.

Try to catch all 10 butterflies, then go to the next step!

3. Plant Flowers

To plant flowers, you must have living butterflies (either fresh, stale, or spoiled butterflies) in your inventory. So, pay close attention to their freshness and go home immediately before they turn into rot.

Next, left-click on the butterflies and move the mouse to any ground you like. This action shows the preview of the planted flower. When you’re satisfied with the location, right-click on that position again to plant a flower.

Remember that you must left-click on the butterflies first to pick them up. Right-clicking the butterflies in your inventory results in eating them.

Besides planting the flowers manually, there is another way to passively get more flowers in your world.

Homeless bees can spawn a new flower after they pollinate 6 flowers. So, you can easily make a flower garden by planting some flowers first near the bee hives. Then destroy the hives (or simply catch the bees and release them) and wait for them to do their work.

That’s how to plant flowers in Don’t Starve Together!
