Old School RuneScape (OSRS) – Best Places to Mine Gold

You are currently viewing Old School RuneScape (OSRS) – Best Places to Mine Gold

Since Mining can be one of the more tedious skills to train in Old School RuneScape, players are often searching for the best locations to mind specific ores.

Gold, specifically, is one of the more unique metals in OSRS, as it is used as the base component for jewelry and other niche items.

Gold can be found in a variety of locations to mine, each with its own requirements to access.

The best places to mine Gold in OSRS include the Crafting Guild, the Trahaearn Mine, Mol-Ul Rek (TzHaar City), and the Dwarven Mine. Gold rocks can also be found in other locations at lower quantities, such as the Al-Kharid Mine.

Gold Ore requires 40 Mining to be able to mine from its associated rock. As detailed earlier, it is not used for armour or weapons like most other methods but for the Crafting skill.

Despite this difference, it is often found in mines that have a wider variety of rocks to mine from.

Al-Kharid Mine

One of the first mines you may experience as a F2P player is the mine north of Al-Kharid.

Not only does it have a variety of Iron, Coal, Mithril, and a couple of Adamantite rocks, but there are two Gold rocks that you can mine for Gold Ore.

Be mindful of the Level-14 Scorpions that are here, as they are aggressive to lower-level players.

This mine can be tricky to use efficiently as it is relatively far from any bank. Therefore, it should only be used if you genuinely want to mine there.

Dwarven Mine

A bit more safer than Al-Kharid Mine is the Dwarven Mine, which can be accessed from a staircase at the north-east side of Falador.

While there are Level-32 King Scorpions down here, you can quickly run behind the Gold Rocks to be able to avoid them.

This location is often preferred because once you mine what you need, you can quickly run back upstairs and to the bank.

While you may want to access the Mining Guild nearby, there are surprisingly no Gold Rocks inside to mine from.

Crafting Guild Mine

Since Gold is a heavily used Crafting resource, it should come as no surprise that the Crafting Guild has a mine that includes seven Gold rocks for you to mine from.

However, unless you have completed the Hard-Tier Falador Achievement Diary, you will be unable to use the Bank Chest.

If you are entering the Crafting Guild through the main entrance (such as teleporting back and forth to Falador to bank your Gold Ore), you will also need a Brown Apron to access the Crafting Guild.

Karamja Volcano Mine

Going back to a dangerous location for lower levels, once you enter the volcano on Karamja, you will find four Gold rocks next to the wandering Skeletons just outside the entrance of TzHaar City.

These rocks are handy because once you mind them, you can run inside TzHaar City to access the bank to deposit them.

While not ideal for low-level players or those who are F2P, it can be nice for members-Ironman accounts that are just starting off on their Mining/Crafting journey.

Brimhaven Mine

North of the entrance to the Brimhaven Dungeon is a small Gold mine with 10 Gold rocks.

There is also a Level-20 Poison Scorpion that will attack players that are too low-level, but being able to access 10 Gold rocks at a time can come in handy.

Alternatively, you can mine the gold at the front entrance of the Brimhaven mine, although there aren’t as many rocks, and they are scattered.

While there isn’t a bank nearby, you can quickly access the charter at the piers north of Brimhaven to Catherby, bank them, and quickly return for repeated Mining trips.

Mol-Ul Rek (TzHaar City) Mine

In the inner circle of TzHaar City (which requires showing a Fire Cape to the front guard to access), there is a mine that includes a few Gold rocks to mine from.

What makes this area great is that you have a mine that rarely anyone visits (due to its Fire Cape requirement), and it is right next to a bank chest that you can use to deposit your Gold ore.

Trahaearn Mine

After completing the “Song of the Elves” quest, you will be able to access the Trahaearn Mine, which includes nearly every type of ore in Old School RuneScape, including 14 Gold Rocks.

This mine is exclusive to high-level players, given that you need to complete a Grandmaster-level quest to access while being fairly close to a bank to deposit your ores.

Notably, this mine is the only one on this list that also includes Runite Rocks, so you may want to consider mining them between trips if you have 85 Mining.

Dondaken’s Mine

While we’re on the subject of Gold Rocks, it would be a disservice not to mention Dondaken’s Mine, which has a whopping 147 Gold Rocks and veins to mine from.

Accessed during the “Between A Rock…” quest, you can access this mine after walking a short distance from Keldagrim while wearing a Gold Helmet.

Here, you can mine all the Gold ore you need without having to wait for them to respawn (since there is that much ore available).

Unfortunately, it is not that close to a bank, so you will need to teleport out and travel the distance back to this mine for repeated trips.
