In Project Zomboid, you can open the gun case by equipping it as your primary/secondary or placing it on the ground like other containers. To equip the gun case, right-click on it and select “Equip Primary” or “Equip Secondary”, then left-click the gun case icon on the rightmost column display to open and loot it. In addition, to place it on the ground, right-click and select “Drop”. Then you can open it and loot it like other containers such as drawers or cabinets.

How to Open Gun Case in Project Zomboid
A gun case in Project Zomboid is categorized as handheld, which means you can carry it along with other one-handed weapons or items simultaneously. To say the least, the gun case helps a lot with multitasking.
It’s pretty rare to obtain this type of container in the game. You might find the gun case randomly in wardrobes or closets, hidden caches under the planks in houses, or in gun stores.
Once you’ve obtained the gun case, you have two options for opening it:
- Equip it as primary or secondary
- Place it on the ground and loot it like other containers
To open the gun case, press “I” to open your inventory, then right-click on the gun case and select “Equip Primary” or “Equip Secondary”. Then left-click the gun case icon on the rightmost column display, and the gun case inventory window appears, just like your main inventory. Feel free to put items inside!
Alternatively, you can right-click on it and select “Drop” to place it on the ground, then left-click on it to open the container window.
In general, the gun case has poor capacity and weight reduction. Since it’s a container item, you can put whatever in it, as long as it doesn’t surpass its maximum capacity of 4-7.
The gun case also has a weight reduction of 5%, that’s too low to reduce the weight significantly. However, this isn’t a big deal because you can’t carry too much with it.
There’re several types of gun cases. If you’re lucky enough, especially when you choose the “Lucky” trait in your early game, you might grab a gun case with a gun inside it.
