How to Spawn Items in Don’t Starve Together

First of all, it’s worth noting that spawning items in any context is considered cheating, and you shouldn’t do this if you’re playing with others.

Moreover, you must be the server admin to be able to use commands or mods to spawn items.

Without further ado, let’s see the two ways to spawn items in DST!

1. Using Commands

To spawn items in Don’t Starve Together using commands, press the tilde key (~) on your keyboard to open the console panel.

Once the console is opened, you can use 2 commands below to spawn items:

  • c_spawn(“item”, “quantity”)
  • c_give(“item”, “quantity”)

You can simply replace “item” with the name of your desired item and “quantity” with the number of items you want to spawn.

For example, typing c_spawn(“sapling”, 2) will spawn 2 Saplings. Likewise, typing c_give(“meat_dried”,1) will spawn 1 Jerky.

The only difference between the two commands is that c_spawn will spawn the object or item at your mouse’s position. On the other hand, c_give will spawn items directly into your inventory.

Having said that, sometimes, the commands won’t work as intended if you use the wrong item name.

For instance, using c_give(“sapling”) won’t spawn a Sapling in your inventory but spawn it at your mouse’s position instead. This happens because Sapling is an object in the world, not an item.

The commands also work if you completely remove the “quantity” parameter. In that case, the spawn quantity will always be 1.

It’s important to know that you must use the item code name instead of the actual in-game name to spawn it.

So, you may want to spawn a few Jerkies to eat, but Jerky isn’t a thing in the game code. Instead, it’s called “meat_dried”.

To get a code name for an item, simply check out the respective Wiki page of that item. Moreover, here’s a full list of Don’t Starve Together items and their code names.

Alternatively, the full list of code names can also be found at:
Steam directory\steamapps\common\Don’t Starve Together\data\databundles

Once you’re here, locate the “scripts.zip” file. Unzip it, go to the “prefabs” folder, and all the code names are here.

2. Using Mods

There are many DST mods that can improve the quality of life. And among them, Too Many Items is the best when it comes to spawning items.

After subscribing to the mod on Steam and enabling it, you can press “T” to access the mod menu.

To quickly find specific items, click on “Search Items Here!”. Then, type the item name and press “Enter”.

Fortunately, this mod’s filter system works based on the item names, not code names like the first method.

Finally, click on your desired item to spawn one right away, or right-click for ten of them. Remember that you can flexibly adjust the spawn quantity in the mod options.

That’s how to spawn items in Don’t Starve Together!
