The citizens of OSRS will do anything to get a wealthy amount of gp, from endless skilling and grinding bosses to even scamming other players!

But did you know that there’s a limit to how much gp you can have? Today I’m going to talk about the max cash amount that you can have in OSRS, as well as how much gp you are able to store in your bank.
The maximum cash amount that you can have in Old School RuneScape is 2,147,483,647 gp (2.1b).

What is Max Cash in Old School RuneScape?
The term “max cash” describes the maximum number of coins you can store in a single stack. In OSRS, that number is 2,147,483,647gp.
You might be asking yourself: “Why is it such a specific number?”. The answer is because of how the game itself is coded!
When Old School RuneScape was created, it was made out of 32-bit integers. This meant that each item had a maximum value that could be added only up to a designated amount in the game’s coding.
Technical jargon aside, when you get to the maximum number of stored values in a 32-bit integer, the number you get is 2,147,483,647, thus giving us the number we know and love today!
What if you have a Max Cash Amount and pick up more Coins?
If you do this, the game will simply say that your inventory is full and won’t let you pick up any more coins.
This mechanic continues if it is stored in a bank, as you can only hold one maximum value of anything at a time.

What about Platinum Tokens?
Great question! Platinum tokens are an alternative currency in OSRS where 1,000gp can be traded in for 1 Platinum token.
These are often used for extremely wealthy players who want to store even more gp in their bank.
Any player is able to produce Platinum tokens by using their gp on any Banker or Grand Exchange Trader in Old School RuneScape.
Now, let’s say you were able to get a maximum stack of Platinum tokens. This would mean that we have the max cash amount a thousand times over, giving us a new max cash amount of 2,147,483,647,000 gp (2.1 trillion gp)!
The Most Expensive Item Stack In Old School RuneScape
We’ve determined what the max cash amount in OSRS is, along with why it is that way and how much it would be if it was converted to Platinum tokens. But what if we wanted to take it a step further?
As explained, we can only have one stack of maximum items per item in the game, and it doesn’t have to be coins.
The most expensive item in Old School RuneScape at the time of this article is the 3rd Age Pickaxe, an item currently going for max cash (technically more as it is traded off the Grand Exchange, but that is a different story).
Now we have an item of max cash value that can be stacked to the maximum amount.
This would mean that hypothetically if you were able to get a max stack of 3rd Age Pickaxes in OSRS, it would be worth 2,147,483,647 times 2,147,483,647, in other words:
4,611,686,000,000,000,000 gp (4.6quintillion)
Of course, this is impossible to replicate in the game, as there are only a handful of 3rd Age Pickaxes in the game.
