Some players like to name their characters in games the exact same way, no matter what game they play. However, sometimes, the names just don’t fit the character.

In Stardew Valley, you will get to play as a relatively friendly farmer who is slowly trying to become a millionaire. If you don’t like the name you chose when you created this farmer, then you are lucky to learn that you can change it at any time.

How to Change Your Name in Stardew Valley

The only way players can change their name in Stardew Valley after character creation is by using the Shrine of Illusions. However, most players won’t even know what that is or how to access it.

The Shrine of Illusions is a special altar found in the basement of the Wizard’s Tower. To enter the basement, you must first reach 4 friendship hearts with the Wizard. Giving the Wizard Solar Essence is the simplest way to make him happy.

Krobus sells 10 Solar Essence every day, making this the ideal present to give the Wizard.

Talk to the Wizard daily and give him two Solar Essences each week, and you’ll quickly get those 4 hearts in no time.

If you haven’t discovered Krobus yet, donate 60 artifacts to the Museum, and you will get a Rusty Key that opens the Sewers south of the farm.

There, you will find Krobus waiting to sell you items. Otherwise, just give Quartz to the Wizard.

How to Use the Shrine of Illusions

Now, speak with the Wizard, and he will tell you that you are welcome to enter his basement.

In his Tower, go north and interact with the wooden hatch. The Shrine of Illusions is located down there, to the right.

If you offer the shrine 500 g, you will be able to change the name of your Stardew Valley character as you did when you started the game.

You can also change your favorite thing, how your pet looks, gender, and appearance.

Cheat Names to Get Items

Since you can change your name, you can also try using the cheat, where you can get items by having the item spawn code as your name.

If you already had a cheat name at the start of the game, you can change it to gain other items.

Each item in Stardew Valley has a specific number ID. If you have the number in your name and an NPC says that number, you will gain that item in your inventory.

For example, if your name was “[123],” you’d get an Amethyst each time someone said your “name.”

You can fit up to 3 item IDs in your name, allowing you to cheat relatively hardcore for a little while.

This is extremely convenient, and it is good to know that players can change their name at any time in the game to gain rewards for no effort.

You can then change your name back to normal and then brag to your friends about your farming skills.

That’s everything you need to know about how to change your name in Stardew Valley!
