Stardew Valley – How to Unlock Sewer

You are currently viewing Stardew Valley – How to Unlock Sewer

One of the first things that players might notice right in the middle of Pelican Town in Stardew Valley is the big, locked Sewer cover next to the Graveyard.

If you also explore the southern part of Cindersap Forest, south of your farm, you can find a big sewage drain pipe that you could enter if you could open the big lock on the grates.

Through either of these entrances, players can enter the Sewers, a special location in Stardew Valley where they can meet a new character and trader, change their professions, and enter one of the more dangerous dungeons in the game.

To unlock the Sewer in Stardew Valley, you will need the Rusty Key. You can get this key as a reward from Gunther after you donate 60 items to the Museum.

How to Unlock the Sewer in Stardew Valley – Rusty Key Location

To unlock the Sewer in Stardew Valley, you will need to donate at least 60 items to the Museum.

The items that you can donate to the Museum will usually have a description saying that “Gunther can tell you more about this if you donate it to the museum.”

The items that you can donate to the Museum are:

Players can get Minerals from the Mines, Skull Cavern, and the Volcano Dungeon. To get Artifacts, you will mainly have to dig up Artifact spots.

Artifact spots are special tiles that spawn randomly on the map that you can dig up using a Hoe to get a random item, which could also be an Artifact.

You can tell you are looking at an Artifact spot if the ground has three worms/twigs moving around.

Once you manage to donate 60 out of the 95 total items for the Museum, you will get a cutscene the next day, where Gunther will reward you with the Rusty Key.

Now, you can just approach either the Sewer cover next to the Graveyard or the grates in Cindersap Forest and enter the Sewers.

What to Do in the Sewers

There are four things you can do in the Sewers in Stardew Valley:

  • Shop from Krobus
  • Change Professions at the Statue Of Uncertainty
  • Fish for the legendary Mutant Carp
  • Enter the Mutant Bug Lair

Krobus

The first thing you might notice when you enter the Sewers is that there is a friendly resident monster standing in the upper right corner of the location.

This shadow person is friendly and would like to trade with you.

It sells special items that you wouldn’t find at any other shop, and it has a special rotating stock that can be very useful, once you learn it.

Here is what you can buy from Krobu’s shop in Stardew Valley, inside the Sewers:

  • Crystal Floor Recipe – Price: 500 g, Stock: 1 (until purchased)
  • Monster Fireplace – Price: 20,000 g, Stock: Unlimited

  • Bat Wing – Price: 30 g, Stock: 10 (on Sundays)

Change Professions

If you wanted to change your Professions in one of the main skills in Stardew Valley, you would have to go down into the Sewers and donate 10k g to the Statue Of Uncertainty.

You can change both level 5 and level 10 Professions.

After you pay the money, you just need to go to sleep and, at night, you can just choose your Professions, as you did when you first achieved those levels.

Players also get their HP and Energy fully regenerated, as you would when you level up normally.

Catch the Mutant Carp

The Sewers is the only place you can catch the legendary fish Mutant Carp.

You can also catch the following items and fish in the dirty waters of the Sewer:

  • Carp
  • Green Algae
  • White Algae
  • Trash

Every time you throw the hook into the waters of the Sewers, there is a 10% chance that you will catch the Mutant Carp.

It is probably the easiest to catch legendary fish in Stardew Valley since you know exactly where you get it, and you have a relatively high chance of getting it once you get there.

Mutant Bug Lair

This is more of a quest-related location, but you can get to the Mutant Bug Lair through the Sewers.

You will first need to get the Dark Talisman from the Wizard. Once you do, just talk to Krobus, and he will unlock this new location.

To get the Dark Talisman quest, you will need to complete all the Community Center Bundles or the Joja Development investments.

Once you do, just go into the Railroad area, and you will get the quest through a cutscene with the Wizard.

The only other thing you can do in the Mutant Bug Lair, besides retrieving the Dark Talisman, is fishing. You can catch Carp and Slimejack in this location.

The Slimejack is a special fish that you can only find and catch in the Mutant Bug Lair.

So, if you want to catch all of the possible fish in Stardew Valley, you will need to enter the Mutant Bug Lair at least once.

That’s everything you need to know about how to unlock the Sewers in Stardew Valley!
